Place-Based Initiatives

We have worked with place-based programs to understand how and why place matters for a program's success, diving into community identity and features that can facilitate or impede progress. One of example of our work in this area was with Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County to evaluate their BRIDGES program. BRIDGES are gathering places that connect local families to community resources so more children are born healthy, remain free from abuse and neglect, are ready for kindergarten, and have increased access to quality afterschool and summer programs. The evaluation of the program was a mixed-methods design with quasi-experimental components and included parent survey data (collected from over 700 parents), staff surveys, parent and stakeholder interviews, and the secondary data analysis of data from the School District of Palm Beach County, the Department of Social Services, and the Department of Children and Families.
